A new figure in African diplomacy in Beijing crossed the doors of the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Congo in China this Wednesday, September 23. Mamadou Sory Dembélé, the new Ambassador of Mali to China, made a courtesy visit to François Balumuene for an initial meeting between the two diplomats.
The welcome was warm. François Balumuene welcomed his Malian counterpart to the community of African ambassadors accredited in China and wished him success in his new role.
Behind this courtesy visit lies a meeting between two diplomats whose careers share an unusual common point: the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
From Ituri to Beijing
Before taking up his position in Beijing, Mamadou Sory Dembélé was already familiar with the Congolese terrain. He worked in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as part of the United Nations mission, then known as MONUSCO, particularly in the Ituri region.
This experience allowed him to get to know the DRC as well as some realities of Central Africa. His journey brings him back to China today, this time with a leading diplomatic responsibility.
The new Malian Ambassador is already familiar with the country. He served as the Consul of Mali in Guangzhou for four years before being appointed as the head of the Malian diplomatic representation in Beijing.
His return to China is therefore not a discovery, but rather a new step in a professional journey already marked by significant Chinese experience.
A meeting beyond protocol
These elements gave a particular tone to the exchanges with François Balumuene. The conversation between the two diplomats took place in a setting that was both professional and fraternal, revolving around their experiences, the African presence in China, and the relations between the continent's diplomatic missions.
For François Balumuene, the arrival of a new African representative in Beijing also presents an opportunity to strengthen contacts between the various African embassies present in China.
The visit of Mamadou Sory Dembélé is thus part of this tradition of establishing contact between heads of diplomatic missions. It demonstrates the importance given to direct dialogue and close relations between African representatives stationed in Beijing.
Between Mali, the DRC, and China, this meeting thus brings together diplomatic paths that have intersected around the same reality: that of an African diplomacy called to maintain close ties, to multiply exchanges, and to carry the voice of the continent in an ever-evolving international environment.
This first meeting between François Balumuene and Mamadou Sory Dembélé now paves the way for new exchanges between the two Embassies, in a spirit of friendship, African brotherhood, and cooperation.
