RD Congo et Pologne: pour la Paix et le Développement

History of relations between the two countries

The relations between the DRC and Poland formally began after the DRC's independence in 1960. Since then, the two nations have gradually forged diplomatic and commercial ties, marked by economic exchanges and collaborations in various sectors. The recent intensification of relations reflects a mutual desire to strengthen these ties for a sustainable strategic partnership.

A Decisive Phone Conversation between the Two Presidents

This Friday, a significant phone conversation took place between President Félix Tshisekedi and President Andrzej Duda of Poland. This exchange focused on crucial topics of common interest such as bilateral relations and the security situation in the East of the DRC[1].

Condemnation of the Attempt to Destabilize Congolese Institutions

President Duda firmly condemned the attempt to destabilize Congolese institutions that occurred on May 19 in Kinshasa. He reaffirmed Poland's commitment to supporting peace and security in the DRC, as well as preserving the country's territorial integrity. This support is vital for the DRC, which faces complex security challenges[2].

Clarifications from the Polish President on his Visit to Rwanda

The Polish President also addressed the manipulations on social media regarding his recent visit to Rwanda, stating that they were orchestrated by agitators. He clarified that this visit had no negative intentions towards the DRC and reiterated his desire to strengthen relations between Poland and the DRC. Duda expressed his willingness to promote and develop the excellent existing relations, which could be beneficial for both nations[3].

Launch of a Polish Economic Mission in Kinshasa

In order to realize this desire for cooperation, President Duda announced the imminent dispatch of a special envoy to Kinshasa. This envoy will be tasked with preparing a Polish economic mission aimed at promoting trade exchanges and strengthening cooperation between the two countries. The mission will focus on strategic sectors such as security, agriculture, infrastructure, and technology, where Poland can provide valuable expertise[4].

Commitment to Ongoing Cooperation

The two Heads of State also expressed their commitment to continue and deepen their discussions, so that their respective nations can derive economic, diplomatic, and political benefits. This willingness to cooperate is also demonstrated by the planning of future meetings. Indeed, Presidents Tshisekedi and Duda planned to meet in September 2024 in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. This international meeting will be an opportunity to discuss common projects face-to-face and strengthen bilateral ties[5].
