On January 20th, the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, was sworn in at Kinshasa, marking the beginning of his second term following his overwhelming victory in the December elections. The Head of State affirmed his commitment to the Constitution and the laws of the Republic.
Inauguration at the Martyrs' Stadium
The choice of the Martyrs Stadium for his inauguration recalls the launch of his electoral campaign, demonstrating President Tshisekedi's desire to remain close to the people. The stadium, with a capacity of 80,000 seats, was filled with a festive atmosphere with performances, singers, and dancers, while awaiting the arrival of African dignitaries.
Commitments and Priorities
In his inaugural speech, the president acknowledged the expectations of the Congolese people, addressing crucial issues such as unemployment, purchasing power, youth, women, and national cohesion. "I am aware of your expectations", he stated, thus emphasizing his commitment to the nation's well-being.
Historic Elections
The December elections included a quadruple ballot, encompassing presidential, legislative, provincial, and local elections. Despite persistent logistical issues, President Tshisekedi achieved a resounding victory with over 73% of the votes in a single-round election, leaving the other candidates far behind.
Félix Tshisekedi begins his second term with an undeniable victory and a clear vision for the future of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The inauguration ceremony at the Martyrs Stadium symbolizes his commitment to the people, thus recalling the path traveled since his first oath-taking. The challenges are numerous, but with massive popular support, the president is ready to guide the country towards new horizons.
